Stopping at Schat's every time I drive through Bishop is a MUST! Parking can be a bit chaotic as it's a tight one-way squeeze around the building, but there's parking at the park across the street if you're unable to find a spot. If you have a larger car or are towing anything, definitely stick to the park parking. It's worth it, trust me. Once inside, the left side of the bakkery has stacks of delicious breads (rosemary sourdough is my fave) and a section where you can get a half (or whole) sandwich made on their delicious bread. Turkey club is a popular choice and you can never go wrong getting it. Again - there is usually a long line but it goes by fast and it's WORTH IT! The right side of the bakkery you'll find sweets - pies, breads, cookies, candies, and more! Definitely stop here next time you pass buy, it's a lovely small-town feel inside and the food is super fresh and delicious!

This is an Eastern Sierra classic! A must stop whether you're staying in Bishop or, like most folks, traveling north or south on 395. The bakery has lots of delicious sweets, but their specialty is bread, homemade (well, okay, bakery-made), fresh, delicious, perfect bread . . . in many varieties. Now, if it's around lunchtime, treat yourself to a turkey sandwich on your favorite bread. The turkey is newly cooked and sliced off a real turkey. The only negative I can think of is that sometimes, especially in high tourist seasons, Schat's can be crowded so you'll have to wait in line. But this is evidence of just how good Schat's is. And it's always worth the wait in line. Oh, yes, parking can also be tricky during busy times. You can park across 395 in the Bishop City Park parking lot and walk over to Schat's. There are several tables outside where you can eat if they're not full. But rather than sit there, do yourself a favor and walk across 395 to Bishop City Park, which is gorgeous with spacious lawns and large trees. Lots of shade in the summer. A great place to enjoy your Schat's snack!

Your must stop tourist spot when driving through Bishop. Has a Solvang type of feel and decor. Parking can be a challenge when it gets busy, so be patient or park around the area and walk. Large selection of bakery items to choose from. Definitely a place to pick up snacks and treats. Their breads are popular and they have a sandwich counter for freshly made sandwiches. Definitely worth a stop if you've never been in Bishop.

My first time trying this place. This place excited me so much as they offer so many different kinds of breads and sweets. We ended up purchasing a couple loaves and beef jerky to take home. I also tried their sandwiches. The bread does make a difference ! Very busy place but well worth the stop if you are in town.
